The news is apparently less pleasing for the cell phone makers. Sources claimed that the cellphone market growth has slowed down sharply in the third quarter as sales of basic phone models shrank from a year ago. Even growth in the smartphone market is not very pleasing.
Latest stats revealed that the global sales of all mobile phones grew up an annual 5.6 percent in the third quarter to 440.5 million phones in comparison with 16.5 percent growth in the previous quarter. Also, smartphone sales grew 42 percent from a year ago, compared with a 74 percent rise in the previous quarter.
Amongst major cell phone makers, Google's Android is getting popular and it recorded 52.5 percent market share.
Further, it is found that Nokia remained the world's largest cellphone maker, but its market share dropped to 23.9 percent from 28.2 percent a year earlier, while other rivals including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Apple closed the gap.
It is important to note that Q2 of 2011 was a bit slow for the Finnish giant, but the third quarter brought some signs of improvement
